I created this bird in a cage out of single large log at the annual Seldovia Chain saw Carving Competition in 2008. Chain saw carving a piece like this required a great deal of cutting and careful measurement to leave the bars of the cage in place, yet still clear out the cent of the log. I really did this one more to push the limits of chain saw carving than for the artistic appeal of the piece.
